LIRS in the News

The cover story for the January/February issue of The Bond, Lutheran Brotherhood's bimonthly magazine, was "Refugees in America: Recipe for Success." The article by Melissa Manning noted LIRS's advocacy and action on behalf of refugees and a sidebar took readers "Up Close with the LIRS President," Ralston Deffenbaugh.

Several articles in recent weeks have focused on the ongoing crisis that has delayed the final processing and travel of 22,000 refugees:

  • An article by Kimberly Hayes Taylor in the Minneapolis Star Tribune's December 24 issue quoted LIRS Director for Communications Susan Baukhages on the devastating effects the resettlement crisis can have on refugees who are stuck in limbo.

  • The Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star highlighted LIRS's advocacy efforts in a January 29 article by Bob Reeves.

  • The Washington Times mentioned LIRS's reduced admissions numbers since October in a January 31 article by August Gribbin.

  • A February 12 article by Kate Shatzkin in the Baltimore Sun quoted Deffenbaugh on the threat to the resettlement program.

The Northfield (Minn.) News included an announcement of a speaking engagement by LIRS Ambassadors Circle Director Denise Laugtug in its February 16 issue.
