Travel Loan Services

Refugees pay their own travel expenses to the United States. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) makes refugee travel arrangements and issues interest-free loans to cover the cost of airline tickets. The refugees sign a promisory note stating that they will repay the loan over a pre-determined period. LIRS oversees the repayment process for the refugees we resettle. LIRS's loan counselors guide refugees through the repayment process, helping them establish good credit in their new country and learn basic financial literacy. Repaid loans help fund resettlement travel for other vulnerable refugees, and support the mission of LIRS.
