Opportunities to Give

Since 1939 Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service has worked to bring new hope and new life to America's most vulnerable newcomers. LIRS resettles refugees, protects unaccompanied refugee children, advocates for fair and just treatment of asylum seekers, and seeks alternatives for individuals languishing in immigration detention.

We welcome the gifts of individuals, churches, foundations, corporations and other organizations to help us carry out this important work—as we educate and inspire congregations, mobilize people to speak and act on these difficult issues, and serve as a voice for the voiceless in the halls of our nation's capital. We need to make sure that America's doors remain open to those who desperately need our help and intervention.

Benefits of Giving

No matter the size of your donation, it makes a difference in the lives of those we serve. All donors will be recognized in LIRS’s annual report.
LIRS is honored to join in celebrating your loved ones and significant events through tribute gifts. Such gifts are recognized with an acknowledgement card to someone you designate.
If you contribute $500 or more during a calendar year, we will invite you to place an engraved brick in the Good Samaritan Quilt Plaza at LIRS’s headquarters at the Lutheran Center in Baltimore.
If you make gifts totaling $1,000 or more during a calendar year, we will honor you as a member of the LIRS President's Council.
LIRS is an eligible 501(c)(3) public charity, and your gifts to the agency are 100 percent tax deductible. The Better Business Bureau recognizes LIRS as an accredited charitable organization.

Matching Gifts

Your employer may offer a corporate match when you donate to charitable organizations. Matching gift programs allow companies to practice philanthropy in a way that reflects their employees’ values. Although some employers have a minimum gift amount, most make it easy for employees to participate in their matching gift programs. Check with your human resources or payroll colleagues to see if your employer will match your gift to LIRS so your dollars go even further in service to immigrants and refugees.
If you're a member of Thrivent Financial, you can contribute even more to LIRS through the GivingPlus Program. If you are a benefits member or own Thrivent mutual funds and life insurance, for every dollar you donate to LIRS Thrivent will contribute an additional 50 cents toward serving and advocating for vulnerable immigrants.
