About the Fund

The Heritage of America Fund sustains the LIRS mission of welcoming newcomers with courage and compassion. Through good times and bad, it assures that we can continue to serve refugees and other immigrants, support children and families, and speak up for fair treatment of all who seek new life in a new land.

For those who give, the Heritage of America Fund provides

the opportunity to make gifts of any size that will help you put your money where your heart is,
a meaningful tribute to your heritage by honoring family members who came to this country as immigrants or refugees, and
a significant way to assure that other newcomers will receive help and hospitality from LIRS as they seek safety and freedom.

The Heritage of America Fund consists of several endowments managed for LIRS by church-related institutions including the Lutheran Community Foundation, the ELCA Foundation and the LCMS Foundation.
These foundations provide sound and cost effective fiscal management of the Fund at the lowest possible administrative cost.

Sustaining America’s Heritage

In a nation built by immigrants, LIRS sustains the heritage of America by welcoming newcomers We light the way to the future for immigrants, refugees, and others seeking protection from countries where war and oppression have stolen their hope and threatened their very existence. We resettle newcomers, reunite families and rekindle dreams. Since its founding in 1939, LIRS has given hundreds of thousands a new start-helping to strengthen our nation.

LIRS is a leader in serving unaccompanied refugee children, advocating for fair public policies, and championing the cause of people who are imprisoned while seeking asylum in the United States. With courage, integrity and compassion, LIRS supports the vulnerable, speaks for the voiceless and protects the defenseless.

To continue aiding those who seek safety and freedom on America’s shores, LIRS strives to maintain a stable and diverse financial base. We use your gifts to the Heritage of America Fund to help assure the availability of our services for years to come.

Building America’s Dream

Immigrants and refugees help to build the American dream and create the heritage of America’s tomorrow. Through their strong work ethic, family values, knowledge, skills and desire for freedom, they contribute greatly to weaving the fabric of our country.

Our goal is to help them become adjusted in their new land and self-sufficient as quickly as possible.

Help the dream to last. Make a gift to the LIRS Heritage of America Fund in the form of…

a cash donation;
a transfer of stock;
a gift of real property; or
a deferred gift such as a bequest, a charitable annuity, or an unneeded IRA, insurance policy or other retirement account.

Gifts may be made in honor or in memory of a special person in your life.
Gifts of $500 or more may be recognized with an engraved brick on the “Good Samaritan Quilt Plaza” at the Lutheran Center in Baltimore
