LIRS Responds to Hurricane Crisis

LIRS, together with our partners in the Refugee Council USA, is currently engaged in intensive discussions and contingency planning about how our national network of refugee resettlement affiliates might be mobilized to aid in the humanitarian crisis left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

"We are deeply concerned for the tens of thousands of Americans displaced by the storm and subsequent flooding," said LIRS President Ralston H. Deffenbaugh, Jr. "We hope that those affected will be able to return home. However, if and when some cannot return home, we are assessing how we might aid in offering relocation assistance. With our partners in service, LIRS wants to continue to fulfill our biblical mandate to welcome the stranger."
