The Northfield (Minn.) News profiled new U.S. Citizen Phillip Nguyen, a former refugee from Vietnam, and noted that he had been resettled through LIRS in 1996. Several newspapers and magazines have mentioned LIRS in articles concerning the post-9-11 slowdown in refugee admissions. The April issue of The Lutheran, a monthly magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, quoted LIRS President Ralston Deffenbaugh, as did an April 17 Associated Press article by Michael Hill. An April 21 article by C. Kalimah Redd in the Portland (Maine) Press-Herald quoted LIRS Director for Communications Susan Baukhages. An article by Lee Williams in the Sioux Falls, S.D., Argus Leader appeared the same day and also included a quote by Baukhages. A February 25 article by Diana Fishlock in the
Harrisburg, Pa., Patriot-News discusses LIRS's efforts in support
of the Unaccompanied Child Protection Act of 2001 and quotes Policy Advocate
Merritt Becker. An April 6 Boston Globe editorial on the
act mentioned LIRS's refugee foster care work. And an April 8 article
in the Arizona Republic referred readers to the LIRS website for
more information on the bill.
