LIRS President Ralston Deffenbaugh and Washington Representative Merrill Smith were quoted by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Church in Society E-Zine in a May article on Mexican economic migrants.

After the Atlanta Journal-Constitution solicited reader opinions on U.S. refugee policy, it printed comments by several LIRS staff members in a May 8 "Reader Opinions" column. Those quoted were Director for Ambassadors Circle Denise Laugtug, Director for Church Relations Liz Senft and Case Manager for International Social Service—USA Branch Annick Barker.

Coming Next Issue
Beginning in the September/October issue, FYI will include a new feature—"LIRS Partners in the News." LIRS partner agencies who would like their press mentions highlighted in FYI may submit them to Barbara Milburn, LIRS, 700 Light Street, Baltimore, Md. 21230. For the September/October issue we will note media items published or broadcast in June or July. The Deadline for submissions is August 1.

A May 7 article by Edward Sifuentes in the North County (Calif.) Times quoted LIRS Policy Advocate Merritt Becker and noted LIRS's role in seeking the support of Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., for the Unaccompanied Alien Child Protection Act.

In a May 22 article about the decline in U.S. refugee admissions, the Minneapolis Star Tribune directed readers to the LIRS website for more information about the Lutheran refugee resettlement program.

Acting LIRS President Annie Wilson authored an op-ed that appeared in the June 20 issue of the Baltimore Sun. The article commemorated World Refugee Day and urged full restoration of the U.S. refugee resettlement program.
