Refugees
far from their native lands can find a haven in Orange County,
California, from the language and cultural challenges that
face them in the United States. With a beautiful patio, painted
labyrinth, carved fountain and its endless supply of hugs,
smiles and kind dispositions, St. Anselm’s Cross-Cultural
Community Center can comfort almost anyone.
The 26-year-old community center, located
in a church, provides a host of services. Resettlement assistance,
immigration and citizenship programs, English classes, employment
preparation, one-on-one counseling, job development and job
placement assistance—all are available through the center.
Social adjustment, welfare-to-work and emergency transportation
services have recently been added to that already impressive
list.
The center has helped many, from Vietnamese
refugees airlifted out of Saigon to immigrants from Mexico,
Korea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, China, Iraq and the Ukraine.
We honor them for their humanitarian services to these vulnerable
populations.
