For over 70 years, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service has led a ministry of welcome to some of America’s most vulnerable newcomers. We express this ministry in our mission statement and live out our mission in the bold hope that our vision will become reality and the values we hold most dear will be embraced by all.
Mission Statement
In response to God's love in Christ,
we welcome the stranger,
bringing new hope and new life
through ministries of service and justice.
Vision Statement
We envision a world where all communities welcome refugees and migrants. Working in global partnerships and with faith-based communities, we welcome a transformation of our communities and ourselves when we receive the gifts of refugees and migrants, and draw strength and inspiration from diversity. We see ourselves as catalysts and conveners in the work of building welcoming communities, creating and sustaining opportunities for our partners to engage in ministries of service and justice.
Values Statement
Human life is sacred, a gift from God. We treat all people with dignity, compassion and respect.
Service to others is life-affirming. We engage in service as an expression of gratitude to a gracious God. We uphold safety, freedom and human rights, and connect people to community.
We speak and act with courage and faith. In our calling to ministries of advocacy, service and justice, we take appropriate risks and commit ourselves to continual learning.
