Survivors of torture who seek protection in the United States are often imprisoned before they have the opportunity to make their case for asylum. They must often navigate the complex U.S. immigration system alone. Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service coordinates a national network of service partners who help them endure the challenges of detention, provide for their legal representation, and advocate for a more humane system.
