Engage your congregation in learning about immigration issues and speaking up on behalf of migrants through advocacy and prayer. Pick a Sunday in February or March and dedicate a few intentional moments of your service or study time to increase awareness and connect people to action.
These resources from Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service will help your congregation understand the issues and respond meaningfully:
- Bulletin Insert—Help your members learn more through stories and respond through action and prayer.
- Mythbuster—Share the truth about immigration and debunk misinformation. Use as an additional bulletin insert or make handouts available.
- Be Not Afraid Bible Study—This three-part study can be done in one or more sessions to discuss faithful responses.
Toward Compassionate, Just, and Wise Immigration Reform—Congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America may also want to study this denominational social policy resolution.
Postcards to Congress—Download and print on card stock of any color. Have members add their information to three postcards (one each for their senator and two representatives) and decorate or personalize as desired. Individuals can mail postcards directly, or mail them all together in one envelope to LIRS, 122 C Street, NW, Suite 125, Washington D.C 20001. Please mail by March 15 so we will recieve them in time to deliver to Congress.
Thank you for your interest in holding a Stand for Welcome Sunday. We are grateful for your partnership in praying and acting for immigration reform.
