In May 2010 the LIRS board of directors adopted a new strategic vision for the agency. The following statements summarize Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service's hopes for the future and guiding principles for our work.

- A Culture of Welcome | Nurture a culture of welcome in our organization, networks, churches and communities.
- Service | Serve migrants and refugees by facilitating the development of innovative, holistic and systemic approaches, for the mutual benefit of newcomers and the communities they join.
- Advocacy | Advocate boldly, providing strong leadership while fostering wide engagement, and ensuring the voices of migrants and refugees at tables of influence.
- Partnership | Equip, support and share leadership with partners, engaging together to create welcoming communities with migrants and refugees.
- Resources | Build a healthy and vibrant future for the work of our mission by developing our capacities and securing sustainable and diverse resources.

Because you make welcome your mission, you play a vital role in helping LIRS carry out our mission. Here are more ways you can take part in helping us achieve our goals and realize our vision of welcome for all migrants and refugees:
- Comment on LIRS's Vision 2015.
- Pray for the leadership of LIRS to maintain clear and bold vision.
- Choose one area of LIRS's ministry — with refugees, immigrants or unaccompanied children — and pray each day for a month for the newcomers we welcome and for the staff and volunteers who come alongside them.
- Give monthly to Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.
- Take the LIRS Action-a-Month Challenge: Commit to performing one act of welcome each month for a year.
