Beginning with the Pilgrims, many who settled in the New World came here to escape persecution in their homelands. Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service persistently reminds those in power of America's history as a welcoming haven for those in need of refuge.

As one of the nation’s leading refugee resettlement organizations, LIRS draws upon decades of service expertise to inform our advocacy on behalf of people fleeing war and persecution. We call for policy changes that would better serve and protect refugees. We engage in conversations with government stakeholders. And we draw public attention to the challenges refugees face and the blessings they bring to American communities.
