and Volunteers Although refugees and other vulnerable immigrants typically
have the survival skills, talents and burning desire for a better
life that have helped build our country, they may arrive here in
a crisis. Many of them have a desperate need for temporary housing,
transportation, medical care, counseling, language skills or job
training. Volunteers across the country are the hands, feet and heart of our mission as they work with LIRS resettlement affiliates, congregations and other LIRS partner networks. And LIRS is very grateful for the partnership of Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC),
a year-long domestic service program, which has provided us with a number of fine volunteers over the years. Currently, LIRS is privileged to have three LVCers on staff—two in our Baltimore office, serving in our External Relationships and Policy and Advocacy departments, and one in our Washington, D.C., Legislative Affairs office.
