204,000 Parents

It doesn’t take a lot of reflection, in the wake of last week’s events, to wonder if our country’s vision for protecting children has become blurred.

We can all point to the extreme example of that blurring, now, as the country mourns. But what about the background drumbeat of other acts and policies that signal an erosion of that vision?

What makes it acceptable, as new Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) data reveal this week, to rip up countless families by deporting 204,000 parents of children with U.S. citizenship?

We cannot live with the U.S. immigration system tearing so many families apart, leaving children without parents to protect and nurture them.
