On August 3, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released their much-anticipated guidelines for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, providing relief for DREAM Act-eligible youth.

The program will begin on August 15. For more information and to learn how you can assist DREAMers who wish to request relief, please join LIRS and the Interfaith Immigration Coalition for a webinar and call on Thursday, August 16, from 3:30 – 5:30 EST. Please RSVP to receive a link to the webinar. The call-in number is 1-218-936-4700, using access code 657758.

As announced on August 3, DACA requires applicants to:

  • Be under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012;
  • Have come to the United States before reaching the age of 16;
  • Be currently in enrolled or completed high school;
  • Have not have been convicted of certain crimes.

The program does not confer status upon those eligible, and includes a fee of $465. For a complete list of guidelines and eligibility information visit the USCIS website.

The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) has released new estimates forecasting that 1.76 million youth may be eligible for deferred action. Join us on August 15 to learn how you can help eligible youth in your communities access this program.
