I’m pleased to share a guest blog post from our Manager for Congregational Outreach, Matt Herzberg. This post is part of a weekly email series for those who have signed up for the Refugee Sunday Kit. You can download the kit, signup for special materials and Matt’s email weekly update here.
Have you read Rebecca’s story yet?
As a Sudanese refugee on her own in a Kenyan refugee camp at age 14, LIRS placed Rebecca with a foster family in the United States where she thrived. What about the stories of Daimy or Thag? Please read these inspirational stories of amazing people; available to you on the poster of your Refugee Sunday kit.
The facts are there and need to be shared: 30 million displaced people in the world, 10.4 refugees spending years in refugee camps. People of faith are called to welcome the sojourner, and as we consider our capacity for what we can do for new Americans, remember that even sharing this poster helps lift up the timeless story and courage of refugees .
Electronic versions are available for download at lirs.org/refugeesunday. If you need extra posters, please let me know! Give them out to friends in colleagues, hang them in hallways and on community boards, continue to spread the word about Refugee Sunday!
