COVID-19: Help Migrants in Detention | LIRS
URGENT: Immigrant children and families affected by Hurricane Ian need your support! Donate now.

Hope Can't Be Quarantined.

For our friends in immigration detention, the isolation that they experience has only been intensified by the authorities’ decision to indefinitely postpone visits from family, faith leaders and volunteers in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. These visits are a vital source of hope for our immigrant brothers and sisters, hungry for contact with the outside world.

But we believe that hope can’t be quarantined. We know that in times of trial, we must lean on each other and find creative ways to stay connected to those we love. That is why Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service is calling you to action on behalf of our friends in detention, to remind them that they are not forgotten during these incredibly trying times. Whether it’s through writing a message of hope, praying, contacting your elected officials or simply educating yourself and others on the issues, download our new toolkit to learn all the ways you can help right now.

Small gifts. BIG impact.

Your contribution, however small, makes a big difference in the lives of the most vulnerable. It provides newly arrived refugees with basic necessities and vital integration services like English classes, cultural orientation, medical care and more. It allows LIRS to find safe and loving homes for unaccompanied migrant children. And it allows us to advocate for common-sense, compassionate public policy at a time of unprecedented need.

Driven by our common humanity, LIRS carries out a wide range of programs to provide holistic, trauma-informed, and age-appropriate care to the vulnerable individuals we serve.
