LIRS applauds the Office of the Public Advocate within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for its continued efforts to increase assistance to community members and detained immigrants.
The announcement of the office’s new hotline demonstrates a clear willingness to engage and improve communication with the public. NGOs, communities of faith, individuals in detention, and their family members now have better access to information and an understanding of our immigration system.
The existence of this phone line and the timely responses that come from its use will make it easier for people to navigate the US immigration system more effectively. It won’t solve all the problems, but it’s a good start for the federal government.
