Today, I’d like to highlight a blog series by Honduran-born U.S. immigration attorney Killa M., who shares her perspective in a four-part blog series, “A Call to Mercy.”
Killa’s story encompasses her personal history with the violence in her native country as well as the horrific experiences of the unaccompanied youth with whom she works. Her account begins with the post “I Am One of the Lucky Ones” in which she writes:
If you feel bad for me, don’t. I am one of the lucky ones. I didn’t see my mother die. I didn’t hear her scream. I was never harassed or beaten. I didn’t have to walk the streets of my neighborhood wondering when my turn to die would come. Many of the children fleeing to the U.S. from Honduras are not as lucky as I am.
Parts two and three are already available and the final installment, entitled, “Laws Aren’t Perfect” will be posted tomorrow. Visit the Inspiritus blog page to read Killa’s compelling story and hear “A Call to Mercy.”
