Immigration Reform 2013: S.744 Vulnerable to Weakening Amendments! — National Action Alert

button_icon_national_alert2In just two days, the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin the “mark-up” process, in which they’ll consider amendments to the S.744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act

We need your help to make sure S.744 is not amended in a way that undermines the many improvements it would make to our immigration laws. In its current form, the bill would benefit migrants, refugees, and their families. However, the struggle to pass reform legislation is far from over, as advocates and lawmakers are preparing for a range of changes that will be proposed beginning Thursday. Some of those amendments could be far from positive.

As S. 744 undergoes three weeks of committee discussion, debate, and amendments, it’s vital that Congress hear your call to support fair and humane comprehensive immigration reform. LIRS will be closely tracking the amendments offered and letting you know how you can weigh in to ensure we see reform that is consistent with LIRS’s principles for immigration reform.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to sign up for the Stand for Welcome campaign, subscribe to this blog, and follow us on Twitter. Visit our Action Center today and urge your members of Congress to support comprehensive immigration reform.
