Part of our campaign to achieve comprehensive immigration reform has been to launch targeted ads in four priority states over Congress’s Easter recess.
The ads are part of our strategy of lifting up the voices of faith leaders for compassionate immigration reform during this critical period and before the expected introduction of a Senate bill soon. Facebook ads are running in the key states of Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, and Florida, and we placed web ads in the Houston Chronicle and the Arizona Star starting Easter Sunday and running through April 4. We have plans to run print ads in a couple of crucial states to coincide with our April 16 Lobby Day.
Easter is a sacred season of transformation from suffering, pain, and death to new life. These ads create an Easter lens for compassionate immigration reform, as we recognize the suffering too many people have endured due to our dysfunctional laws.
I’m extremely pleased with these ads and trust that they will yield the desired result. It’s very clear that our immigration system is causing much pain by separating families, and this runs counter to our prophetic mission to remember the sojourner and speak up for justice. Our Members of Congress need to hear loud and clear that the time is now for a more humane and compassionate immigration system that fits with our history and values as a nation of immigrants.
