LIRS Northern Virginia

As our Afghan neighbors continue to enter our communities, LIRS and our partners have quickly found that the population of Afghans wishing to resettle in the Northern Virginia/DC area far exceed our existing capacity. To address this need, LIRS has stood up a temporary, one-year operation at Peace Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Virginia to assist in the provision of services through the Afghan Placement & Assistance (APA) program. We are working closely with our partner office, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA), to ensure newly arrived Afghans are welcomed, supported, and empowered in their new lives in the DMV.

Services

LIRS NoVA will provide our clients with initial resettlement assistance (securing housing, school enrollment, community orientation, and building connections to area services), employment counseling, job readiness and placement.

We are coordinating service delivery with our long-standing partner, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA). Once the LIRS office has helped our clients establish themselves in NoVA communities, ongoing services will be transitioned to LSSNCA.
