It’s a great morning to wake up, for once, to good news on the front page! I’m pleased to share a Baltimore Sun article that quotes LIRS staff member Brittney Nystrom on yesterday’s historic Senate victory.
In his article today, “Senate Approves Landmark Immigration Bill,” Sun reporter John Fritze quotes Nystrom in the company of Rep. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and our ally Gustavo Torres of CASA de Maryland.
Fritze writes:
“The amount of good that the Senate bill does, in our view, makes that bill worth supporting,” said Brittney Nystrom, director for advocacy at the Baltimore-based Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.
S.744 passed with a 68-32 vote in the Senate. In a show of bipartisan unity, 14 Republican senators joined their Democratic colleagues in voting for the bill. For a closer look at aspects of S.744 dealing with the roadmap to citizenship, humane enforcement of immigration laws, preservation of family unity, protection of vulnerable migrants, and provisions for workers, see LIRS’s in-depth analyses.
We deeply appreciate the Sun’s effort to cover this historic victory and shed light on the battle ahead in the House. Please take the time to read the full article by clicking the link to the headline, and please leave a supportive comment, share via Facebook and Twitter, and email the link to your friends, family, and colleagues.
And we’re mindful that this victory belongs to every one of you who wrote letters, made call, and visited the offices of your senators! Thank you!
