“Syria, A Regional Crisis, “ a report released today by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), reminds us that the civil war gripping Damascus and the region beyond is a “staggering humanitarian crisis.”
Many of the refugees interviewed by the IRC called sexual violence a major reason for leaving their homeland, the organization said in their 23-page report, which confirms that hundreds of thousands of Syrians are now refugees.
We’re grateful for the IRC’s extensive work on this issue, and hope this report brings renewed attention to the refugees’ plight.
For more thoughts on the crisis, it’s worth reading this Washington Post piece, “Saving the Lives of Syria’s Refugees,” by my colleague Stacy Martin.
