Hope for the holidays

The holidays should be a magical, wondrous time for children.
But this year in America, thousands of children and families will be spending the holiday behind bars — because they crossed the United States border seeking protection.

Welcome to Hope for the Holidays™! LIRS is proud to run its eighth-annual Hope for the Holidays™ program which collects cards and gifts for distribution at immigration detention centers across the country, sharing holiday hope and joy with individuals and families seeking safety in the United States.

Join us this season as we share hope and joy with some of our newest neighbors!

To learn how to participate, download Hope for the Holidays™ 2022 Toolkit which has information on writing and sending cards!

Cards must be mailed by December 2nd, 2022!

Additionally, we invite you to consider donating to help cover postage and support LIRS services, as well as advocating alongside us for a fair, just, and humane asylum system!

Last year, volunteers distributed over 16,000 cards to migrant families in detention centers across the country, as well as to individuals and families who were recently released from detention. Notably, the campaign provided more than 500 children’s gifts – enough for every single migrant child in family detention centers in the country to open a special present over the holiday season.

Cards are due December 2!
