I’m excited to share great news from one of the most important states for immigration reform: Texas.
Carlos E. Peña, Vice President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), has published a strong pro-reform op-ed in The Galveston County Daily News.
In his June 18 piece, “We Need Immigration Reform,” Peña writes:
From my discussions with community leaders and other Texans, I know that the suffering caused by our broken immigration system is not unique to Galveston. Nor is there anything unique about me or any other Texan supporting immigration reform. In fact, the commitment to seeking reform is shared by the majority of Americans who are calling for reform that keeps families together and offers a road map to earned citizenship for 11 million aspiring new Americans.

It’s critically important that leaders like Vice President Peña speak out strongly as the Senate debates the bipartisan reform bill, S.744. We’re grateful to him and to The Galveston County Daily News, the oldest newspaper in Texas, for showcasing the reasons why immigration reform will benefit America.
