‘Why Immigration Reform Still Matters After the Boston Bombings’ — Odyssey Networks Talks to LIRS

Odyssey NetworksWhen the terrible news of the tragedy in Boston broke over the country, I was among the countless Americans who mourned and shared the sorrow of the victims and their families.

At the same time, as I noted in a personal statement that day, “We must not fall into the trap of reacting to the cruel acts in Boston by tampering with America’s immigration system, or nascent reforms, in a way that denies Americans – native-born, naturalized, and aspiring – the benefits of economic prosperity, stable communities, and unified families.”

In that light, I’m glad that today I can share the important work of the Odyssey Network, the nation’s largest multi-faith coalition dedicated to producing and distributing media that fosters understanding among people of different beliefs and perspectives and that enriches spiritual life. In their video “Why Immigration Reform Still Matters After the Boston Bombings,” Odyssey’s team asks me key questions about the Boston tragedy.

I hope you’ll watch the responses offered by me and the rest of those interviewed, and I hope I’m able to add something of value to the continuing discussion of what this terrible event means for Americans, both new and native-born. Thank you for your thoughts and actions, and for your continuing efforts to Stand for Welcome.
